UX/UI Designer

HELLO THERE AND WELCOME!

I’m a User Experience/User Interface designer with about 10 years of experience in the mobile/social gaming industry. I didn’t start out as a UX designer, but gradually transitioned into the role once I realized its importance in game development, especially since my studio at the time didn’t have a dedicated UX designer. In my experience, UX designs need to balance both creativity and user clarity as well as implementation practicality on the development side. This is why I make the effort to learn programs outside of the typical UX purview, such as Unity, and explore how projects I work on are structured.

My skills as a UX/UI designer include:

WIREFRAMES

I can create high-level layout designs on paper as well as low-fidelity and high-fidelity digital mockups in Sketch or Adobe XD. I also maintain asset libraries in each program both speed up creation time and maintain consistency across multiple new features.

After most of the complex UX layouts and interactions are figured out, I can move onto making my UX mocks come to life. I use mostly Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator to refine UI assets and connect those assets to my Adobe CC library for simultaneous updates in Adobe XD.

When creating flow charts, I use a combination of low-fidelity, text-only decision trees or high-fidelity flow charts using UX mocks I’ve created. I use high-fidelity flow charts primary for short, straight-forward flows and low-fidelity for particularly complex flows with lots of choice forks.

Depending on how quickly a feature needs to be completed, I can create animation mockups in either in-engine in Unity or separately in Adobe After Effects. Each method has its own benefits and pitfalls, so I tend to switch between the two.

PROTOTYPES

Once UX wireframes are in a workable state, I simultaneously create either low-fidelity or high-fidelity interactive prototypes depending on the feature’s needs. I switch between Adobe XD and Protopie depending on how complex the interactions I want to display are.

UI IMPLEMENTATION

Throughout my design process, I think about how my mockups will be implemented in Unity and if my designs will work well within our existing project structure. I also can navigate within Unity and create prefabs and attach functionality to them when available.
